The AI compute market of 2026 sorts into four models. Hyperscalers run gigawatt-class global clouds. The giants’ own numbers reveal the gap

Here is the detail buried in the neocloud story: contracted power is not active power. Analyses of CoreWeave and Nebius note that the vast majority of their multi-gigawatt portfolios has yet to come online — CoreWeave targets 1.7 GW active by the end of 2026 against 3.5 GW contracted. The same interconnection physics that created the neocloud opportunity now gates their growth. Meanwhile the Middle East is deploying at sovereign scale — Saudi Arabia’s HUMAIN ordered an 18,000-GPU GB300 system, and Khazna holds over 70% of the UAE market — but much of that compute is sovereign-use, not commercially rentable, and Gulf capital is notably flowing into US sites.
